Maggie Q

Maggie Q
- Good Hollywood roles rare for Asians -

Despite landing roles alongside Tom Cruise and Bruce Willis, Maggie Q says Asian actors still have a hard time getting good roles in Hollywood movies. The 29-year-old actress, whose full name is Maggie Quigley, told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday that 90 percent of the scripts she receives are written for Caucasian female characters. "The first part of it is going into a room (for an audition) and trying to quell this stigma that people have about Asians only doing certain kinds of roles and Asians only being looked at a certain way," Quigley said. "You run into these stereotypes a lot."

She was speaking after a press conference in Hong Kong to promote the video game "Need for Speed Undercover," which features a character she portrayed. Quigley said American filmmakers are confused by her biracial background. Born in Hawaii to an American father of Polish-Irish descent and a Vietnamese mother, the actress first made her name in the Hong Kong film industry. "They think, 'Wow, what is this? There's this girl. She's Asian, but she's not. ... They're really not sure where to put me," Quigley said.

She described competing for roles in Hollywood as a "battle." "It's a struggle. You got to win roles. You really got to fight for them. When I left Asia and went to the U.S., essentially I was starting over. It's very hard. It's a lot of work," she said. Quigley's credits include "Mission: Impossible III," starring Tom Cruise, and the fourth installment in the "Die Hard" series, "Live Free or Die Hard," starring Bruce Willis. She also appeared in "Deception" alongside Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams. Quigley is currently shooting Chinese director Tian Zhuangzhuang's "The Warrior and the Wolf," which is about the friendship between two generals in ancient China traveling near the Silk Road.

JOLIE : PITT CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT PREGNANCY

JOLIE : PITT CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT PREGNANCY
Friday October 10 3:35 PM

Angelina Jolie, an advocate of adoption, credits partner Brad Pitt with her decision to have biological children. In an interview with W magazine, Jolie says: "One of the life-changing things that he did, one of many, is that I was absolutely never going to get pregnant. I never felt that it was the right thing to do". She says she changed her mind while watching Pitt bond with adopted children Maddox and Zahara. "He stopped talking about having other kids in the other way," she says in the magazine's November issue. "So I suppose in my heart I realized he was happy with them as his children, completely. I knew he would never see them as different, and that gave me a certain peace."

After that revelation, "I suppose I just looked at him and loved him and just felt open to (getting pregnant). I suddenly wanted to. It's one of those things you can't explain," she says. The couple welcomed daughter Shiloh in May 2006 and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline in July.

"Now I wouldn't trade that experience for the world," Jolie says. "It taught me a lot about life, just the process of it, and now we have three other beautiful children that wouldn't otherwise be here."The 33-year-old actress is photographed apparently breast-feeding on the cover of W. The black-and-white photo shows a smiling Jolie in a sleeveless top, which has been opened to reveal part of her left breast and a tiny hand ostensibly belonging to one of her twins.

The cover headline promises exclusive "private photos" taken of Jolie by Pitt, with whom she is also parent to 4-year-old Pax, adopted from Vietnam. "I'm with a man who's evolved enough to look at my body and see it as more beautiful, because of the journey it has taken and what it has created. He genuinely sees it that way. So I genuinely feel even sexier," says Jolie, who stars in Clint Eastwood's upcoming missing-child drama "Changeling."

Jolie, who divorced Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller, calls Pitt the "right man" for her."I have a lot of respect for him, and he helps me to be better and fight hard for things that I love," she says.

ANNE HATHAWAY

ANNE HATHAWAY
- beautiful sweetheart -

Anne Jacqueline Hathaway (born November 12, 1982) is an American actress. She made her acting debut in the 1999 television series Get Real, but her first prominent role was in Disney's family comedy The Princess Diaries (2001) starring opposite Julie Andrews, which established her career. She continued to appear in family films over the next three years, and she had the lead roles in Ella Enchanted and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (both 2004).

Hathaway later ventured away from the "G-rated" image her early acting career bestowed upon her, starring in the adult-themed films Havoc and Brokeback Mountain, both of which featured her topless. She later starred in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) opposite Meryl Streep and in Becoming Jane (2007), in which she portrays Jane Austen. Her most recent movie, Get Smart, in which she plays the character Agent 99, was released in June 2008 and is currently the second highest-grossing film of her career.

Her acting style has been compared to that of Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn and she cites Hepburn as her favorite actress and Streep as her idol. People magazine named her one of 2001's breakthrough stars and in 2006 she was listed as one of the world’s 50 Most Beautiful People.
